This will depend a lot on the specs of the wheel. Mine are 16x7 with a
38mm offset and I have 205/45/16. I have neuspeed race springs and
plenty of room on both sides of the tire to avoid rubbing. I'd say
that with similar wheel specs you should have no problem running a
215/40/16, a 225/40/16 might be pushing it though. The good thing
about the 205/45 tires is that you have a few choices whereas in the
wider sizes it gets pretty limited. The yokohama A520 is made in all
three I believe.
Good Luck

Subject: Tire sizes on 16"s
I got my new Montreal 16" wheels today off a 2000 GTI and mounted them
on my
car (96 A3). Right now they have stock Goodyear Eagle GSA 205-55-16
rubber
on them. To say they fill up the wheel well is an understatement, I
had to
jack my coilovers way up to get them to fit and I'm still going to have
to
be careful over bumps. Here is my question what size tire should I get
when
I toss the Eagles? I was looking at 205-45-16 but really wanted to get
something wider like a 215-40-16. What do you guys think? Will the
215's
rub on the springs of the coilovers? (H&R with 5mm spacers) Thanks for
any
opinions.
Patrick
