Old Library

the MetalMasters are OK, not stellar, just OK.  I went to them from a set of
racing pads which were installed incorrectly and screwed up my rotors, but
were like the HAND OF GOD reaching down and pulling my chariot to a halt....
well maybe that's a little over the top, but basically the MetalMasters are
good, but there's better out there.  Minimal brake dust, at least.

Hey guys and gals!
After a month of getting the wrong brake pads and / or rotors from Rons Parts
(no hard feelings), I finally got the correct ones to fit my car.

Broke them in a little around town, 50 miles or so, and then went up the
local Sandia mountains that we have up here in new mexico to get them heated
and cooled a few times before really hammering them.

First 2 days worth of impressions.
WOW.  Big improvement over stock.  Seeing as my stock pads were so worn, I
had less that 2mm of pad left. But they are very solid feeling.

Got a chance to really hammer on the brakes tonite, and I am very impressed
over the stock pads and rotors.  I reccomend this to any one in the market
for some pads / rotors.  Can't really say one way or another on the brake
dust thing, because I have dark wheels and its only been 2 days, but from
what I hear its a big improvement over the stock dust monsters.

They retail for 199.00 from Rons Parts.  If anyone might be interested in a
Group Purchase, let me know and I can find out prices from Dustan.

I as well have Metal Masters on slotted rotors and can attest to how nice they
are. Stopping distance is definately shorter when you really mash down on the
pedal in those emergency situations. And yes, there is virtually no dust compared
to the stock pads.

I would also like to praise Matt's O-bars. I recently purchased the rear strut
tower brace that he manufactures and am very pleased with the results! My car
felt like it was coming apart over every bump in the road, magnified moreso by my
Koni's and H&R's. With the O-bar inplace- my car feels a solid as the new A4's!
Cornering stability has definately improved as well, especially higher speed
on/off ramps. But the best part(besides supporting fellow VW enthusiasts) is that
the bar is easily removable when I need to put my drumkit in the back. I still
need a good empty, out of the way parking lot to fully test it. My neighbors
aren't too supportive of my "hotroddin" ways, and I don't want to explain to the
cops that I was merely testing my suspension's capabilties and limits! So on a
side note- does anyone in the MD/DC area know of any deserted places?

My experience with Metal Master is that it's very dusty.  The stopping power
aren't as good as the Ferodo's.  The MM pad technology is pretty old.

i just got had the Brembo slotted rotors and red box pads put on my car and
the stopping is great, wet or dry..and the dust is non existant compared to
the factory pads..

No disrespect Jim, but after 3500 miles with these pads, I have 75% less dust
than stock. You're in D.C. right? I could show you if you like. Considering
these are the first pads I've ever upgraded to, I am pleased. The ferodo and
mintex are probably better, and I'm gonna switch to one of those for a
comparison, but I gotta wear these down first.

Metal Masters dusty??  You MUST be confusing them with something else - they
put out virtually zero dust, even less than Mintex Redbox.  Lots of people
don't like them, describing them as "frightening" when cold, but I never had
a problem with them on some previous cars.. definitely great for keeping the
front wheels clean.

Metal Master/Axxis...  The same stuff that's been on the market for a
million years...  The same pad that scored in the lower tier on the EC brake
pad test, right?  If so, I had them in the Miata, Jetta GLX and the GTI VR6
with crossdrilled - stainles stell brake lines.  Dusty, and I'm not high.
