Old Library

My ABS light has mysteriously come on during driving recently too, for no
apparent reason.  Upon restarting the car, it would turn off like yours
does.  The light was on and off a few weeks ago, and it hasn't come on again
since (knock on wood).  My only advice is to do what I did when the light
comes on: find an open space and check to see if the ABS engages.  Mine did,
so I knew it was only an electrical glitch, and I've had plenty of those
with this car.  Hope this helps some.

I just got my GTI back from the dealer. Mine would also come on at
weird times and when my brakes locked, I scheduled an appointment
right away. Turns out that there was a wire on my harness that was
weak and eventually broke. Just thought I'd throw that at you guys as
a possible problem.

My ABS light had been coming on and off  also lately and everything seemed to be
cool with the brakes.  Then I installed my new 17" wheels and when I test drove
it a "squeek" developed from the front driver side wheel area. I'm thinking "Shit
.....the guys at Discount Tire Direct screwed up and the tires rub!!!"  So me and
the guy at my speed shop (Road Rage Motersports) here in St. Louis start lookin'
and it's not the tire. We pop the wheel off and start nosing around and it turns
out the notched ring that the ABS sensor moniters had some how got bent and was
rubbing on the sensor. Hell of a coincidence with the wheels and all? Anyway my
light was coming on long before it made noise. Check that ring. All it took was
bending it back with a needle nose to fix it. Hope this helps.
