Andrew, Our remanufactured transmissions come from Canada. There has been
problems with VW Canada but most of them are with automatic transmission
rebuilds. When a part goes back for rebuilding it is disassembled and the
worn parts are replaced thats it. I have seen a lot of probblems with the
auto trans. because they only pressure test the valve body. Once it's in
the car is when the fun begins.
VW policy is whenever a rebuilt part is available it is to be used under
warranty. However in some cases rebuilt parts are not yet available than a
new part will be use. To see if a rebuilt part has been installed the part
number will end with a X eg: 010-102-105 AX The only exception to the
rule is when a part fails on a "New Stock" car. This is a car that has not
yet been sold. Than New and only New parts must be used. Several months
ago we delivered a 98 Cabrio and when the customer was driven home the auto
trans exploded. The customer brought the car back the following day. The
General Manager put him in another new car. We than tore up the dealer and
made like the car was still a Stock car. In this case I had to wait 3 weeks
for a New transmission to arrive. In this car the ring gear let go and sent
shrapnel thru the case eventually putting a hole in it.
The only other time I used a "new" part was on a 1983 Scirocco that had a
porous engine block.
