VW Motorsport makes heavy duty strut caps (the big rubber donuts over the
bearings) and Factory VW strut bearings from a vr are more than perfect.

I will go ahead and show my ignorance to all the world to see, what benefit
would a heavy duty donut provide? I have never taken a macpherson strut
assembly apart before so I am having trouble visualizing it. Do I need to
replace the donut too? Is VW Motorsport the same as New Dimensions?

Gavin

well.. it allows for a more accurate transfer of energy between the road and
the suspension. Less energy is lost in the cap, therefore more directly
translating the effective spring rate. Of course there are other factors to
effect this, such as sidewall stiffness, and flex and whatnot.. I like them
because, when i combined them with the VWMS control arm bushings in my mk4..
they decreased the amount of wheelhop i had on acceleration...

I have checked out my car and I have found that my upper strut mount is
worn (not the ball joints or the tie rod)
Thanks to Christopher for the tips of what to look for.
I need to replace the upper shock mounts and I was wondering if there is
a polyurethane or high performance version anywhere.

Thanks
Clay

Get some VWMS strut bushings (mounts) from www.rallypartsireland.com or
www.autotech.com. IMO, poly strut bushings would be way too hard for daily
driving. The VWMS parts are just harder rubber, but still on the
comfortable side...
