The list has been REALLY slow lately. Are you other college guys really
studying for your finals or what?
Well anyways, I recently made the move to the Neuspeed race/Bilstein
sport combo and I thought I'd give my impressions. First of all let me
tell you that almost everyone I talked to about this setup warned me not
to go through with it, I was told I'd need a kidney belt it is so stiff,
so I was pretty aprehensive about that. I was also worried that it would
be too low and I wouldn't be able to drive over anything larger than a
small pebble. Let me tell you guys that these things just aren't true.
It really isn't that much lower than my previous Neuspeed sport/Bilstein
combo. It IS stiff though and my father who is in his 60's will probably
be uncomfortable driving it but for us young guys it's perfectly bearable.
I've even driven in downtown Portland with my girlfriend and she said it
wasn't uncomfortable at all. She said it keeps her awake when we're
cruising: )
The performance increase was substantial as well. The first thing I
noticed was that squat and dive was greatly reduced on braking and
acceleration. Also body roll is significantly less than it was with the
previous setup. I still haven't gotten comfortable enough to really push
its limits in the dry.
So the bottom line is that: contrary to popular belief the Neuspeed
race/Bilstein combo IS a viable option as long as you're not too old and
cranky: )
And before you coilover guys chime in with your comments on just saving up
and getting "the best" suspension. I did compare both setups back to back
before I made my purchase and it is my opinion that the coilovered car did
NOT handle hard cornering as well and DID float more at high speeds.
Flame away, I'm wearing my nomex under-roos : ) And besides, the list is
REALLY slow.
