I'm going to be installing a MOMO race steering wheel in the very near
future. Do I need to remove both airbags, or can I leave the passenger bag
intact? I'm just concerned about the bag firing at some random time. It
may not even be possible for that to happen, but it's something I was
concerned about. Anyone who's had an aftermarket wheel for a long time ever
have any problems?

Later,
Greg

Greg,

I've had my MOMO Motecarlo in for about a 2 years now but I removed
BOTH air bags as VW them selves told me they couldn't guaranty the passenger
would NOT fire unexpectedly if the drivers bag was removed, so I just yanked
both. Just pop your instrument cluster out and remove the annoying air bag
warning light bulb. :-) Good luck.

Greg,

You will only need to remove the driver's airbag/wheel. When the
driver's airbag/wheel is diabled or removed the passenger side airbag is
also disabled. (also vice versa) Due to the removal of the factory
airbag/steering wheel you will also have to endure the airbag idiot
light being on all the time. The only way to not have the airbag idiot
light on is to either hope that the bulb burns out or remove the
instrument cluster and take out the bulb (for the airbag idiot light).
I've had the Momo 'Club 3' since October of '98 with no problems.

Hope this helps,

How sure are you about this? 100%?. A customer of ours had a '95 GTI VR6 with
a Momo wheel installed, passenger bag in place, airbag light removed. Hit a
tree head on and the passenger bag deployed ( we saw the car ). It is my
understanding that unless the airbag control module is removed or disabled,
each airbag can activate independently if necessary. Maybe '95's were unique,
but this seems to contradict popular opinions.
