Here's some numbers from when I got my VR6 corner-weighted:
LF=953 lbs  RF=948 lbs
LR=499 lbs  RR=490 lbs
This was with nothing in back (no spare), me in the car (150lbs), and a half-tank of
gas.  As you can see, there is a 450lb difference *per side* between front and
back.  Every little bit helps, but it would take a lot more than relocating the
battery and a CF hood to make a big change in handling.  If VW would offer an small,
powerful, all-aluminum motor, and spread the weight around a little by making the
car AWD, it would help.  Oops, that's a TT.  (which still doesn't have the even
distribution of it's competitors~Boxster, Z3, etc.)
