The other day the same thing happened to me and I just disconnected the
battery for a min and reconnected it and that reset the head unit again and I
had three more chance's.

I know the Clarions require you to wait an hour or so after fscking up the
code entry 3 times. I'm surprised that doesn't work for the Panasonic, as
well. At any rate, I would attempt to check with another dealer. We've
seen a thousand times before that dealer experience varies, so another may
have the answer. If you don't have any around, you could at least try
calling one from out of town. FWIW, my dealer service department seemed to
hav it at least a little together when talking about the factory radios.
They even replaced my radio under warranty when I had my "unauthorized
modifications" connected (amp and crossover).

All is fine now. Thanks to all who responded.
This was for 93 Passat with Matsushita radio

The tricks are as follows:
1. Don't put in the wrong code 3 times
2. If you do, LEAVE RADIO ON 1+ HOUR. This does not require engine running
or ignition on. Just leaving the key in the Ignition (off position) with the
radio on will suffice.
3. re-enter (correct) codes as usual.

I must have been a little short with the hour wait the first time.
As usual the dealer (Southern States Raleigh, NC) was clueless.
