How-to: Check to see if radio's K wire has been properly dealt with

OK, the refusal is absolute crap. If your seat broke, what does that have to
do with the radio? Admittedly, Best Buy is hardly "professional," but I
digress. The dealer can test the k-line with a multimeter right at the OBD2
port, in about 30 seconds, including opening the driver's door, testing with
and without ignition and with and without radio "on." If he does get +12V,
then he can "gasp" offer to charge you to fix the install (and don't expect
them to warranty the radio if they break it) or make you go back to Best Buy
and have it installed correctly, assuming that the adapter they used was
universal VW and applicable to the older cars as well (which does have +12V
on what is now the "k-wire." The fix? Remove the head unit and cut the wire
to the "k-line" and retape harness. Quick and easy for an expert. Difficult
and mind-numbing for a Best Buy tech. =)
Did I mention I fixed an install a few weeks ago done by a Best Buy? About
$500. later the customer has his gear reinstalled correctly.

Is there an adapater for aftermarket radios that disables the K-Line
(or not shorts it to +12v)? The local dealer refuses to work on my
car saying I have voided my warrenty on my car by having an after
market stereo professionally installed (BestBuy).
