Heh, I am one such person who has experienced this level of stupidity. I
took mine in to the VW dealer, and had their body shop weld on a new bolt
for me. I don't think they took the time to drill out the old one. They
simply welded another bolt on top of it. Ugly job, but's it's held so far.
And I reinstalled my whipple, too.

A local body shop would prolly do as well or better a job.
