Guys,
This has been threaded a million times but I have to give a success story (as somebody else
did-which ended up in the archives).
My VR6 has been making noises forever. I recently had a boatload of warranty work done (incl head
gasket, upper and lower timing chains, gears, tensioners, and guides).
I got my car back and the sounds that I was used to were gone-well, mostly.
My ticking noise was still there. I never had this problem with my Factory motor. When they put
a VW rebuild in at 55K miles the ticking started about 5K miles after that.
There is ONE post in the archives (please add this one to it) regarding engine ticking and the
solution to it.
Mine was audible while driving and was directly related to revving.
So, what I did today is read a post in the archives about somebody who put "Valve Medic" by Gunk
(pep boys etc...) in. I put two containers of it in and drove for two minutes.
The tick is completely gone. I have changed the oil (to get that Gunk crap outta there) and have
been totally cured of the problem.
Now, If it comes back I'll know what to do.
Later,
Nater
