Occassionaly, after driving I switch the engine off, I can smell a faint
odor, sort like a rotten egg. Since the car still has less than 1K miles on
it could just be the normal break-in thing. But I'm wondering if I should
get it checked.

Thanks.

Mine smelled that way for a while. I think it was the coating on some of
the engine components burning off. Then again, I'm not really sure.

Your brand new car has a brand new catalytic converter that contains a fair
amount
of sulphur - thus the rotten egg smell. I smelled it at first, but now,
after 1200 miles, I
no longer get it.

You should only smell it when at rest - at a stoplight or after driving.

It is totally normal.

My car ('97 w/21K miles) has this smell almost every day when I back it
into the garage and shut it off after work. It does seem stronger some
days than others. Since I live in CA, and we are forced to burn the
dreaded reformulated fuel, I wonder if that is at least part of the cause.
