Hi, folks. My first post. I was doing my 30k plug replacement today
on my '97 and one of the slot/tabs on the plug tool broke off while
changing the 4th plug (not #4, just the fourth one I did), the 5th was
OK but the 6th (actually #5, back/driverside) would not come out with
the damaged tool. I will get a new tool from the dealer or someone
but does anyone know of an aftermarket tool that is more durable?
Perhaps it's the just the low mileage vs. build year that made the
last connector sticky. The others seemed OK but the tool did break
earlier in the job. And the engine was cold. Based on what I had
read on the site, I was installing the copper, dual electrode Bosch's.
I'll let you know what I think.
I know what some of you must be thinking: just 30k on a '97?. I really
lucked out. Not only did I find a sweet low miler back in January,
the VW dealer selling it mis-advertised it online for only $10,800!
And they had to use that price. I traded in a '99 Passat wagon Turbo
and was looking for some cash and a good car. GTI VR6 + $4800 =
happiness. We are the Green Dragon.
