Dudes, I am definitely a "non-hands on guy" and this was a cinch!

You don't have to jack up the car. It's right up front, in the middle,
underneath the car. You unscrew 3 nuts. Mine were rusty. That was the
hardest part! Damn rust. Then you remove the allen bolt which holds the
squishy old mount and put in the new one. Jason includes EXCELLENT
graphic instructions.

It should take you like 15 minutes.

Make sure you use the thread sealing compound.

Sure, or I will send them to the list. From what I have heard the only
thing to remember to do is use thread sealing compound otherwise it
will vibrate out and fall off!

Manny,

Could you forward any install tips that you receive? I've ordered one as well.

Thanks,

Dylan

welcome to another episode of "instructions for the mechanically
challenged". today we are going to install the "whipple motor
mount". it helps with shifting and stuff. i would give a
better description of it but i cant. i just changes the feeling
of too many things - in a good way.

Scott Solmonson describes this install best:

Q: How much work is involved in the Whipple mount install?

A: None-
A retarded ape could do it.

without even looking at the instructions, i was going
to have a motor-head friend do it for me (thinking it
the install was probably beyond me and my limited
abilities - its one thing to add a light bulb or pop out
a fuse, but messing with the motor is black magic).
as it happened, my friend flaked me and i was itching
to try it out so i looked at the instructions and then
i looked under the front of my car..

the hardest part of the whole install was finding the
correct tools. literally.

what to look for:

the motor mount is just under the front of the car.
the mount comes with a diagram of what to look for.
i looked for it and found it immediately. its a
cup shaped thing with a whole in the bottom and three
nuts holding it to the under-side of your car.

directions:

to remove the old mount you need to be able to use a
wrench. (yes, even an retarded ape can probably do that.)

removing the three nuts to drop the mount cover.

undo the center bolt to drop the old mount.

marvel at the difference between the new and
old mounts.

grab one donut and the big metal washer looking
thing. insert bolt and bolt back in place.

put remaining donut in mount cover and put cover
back in position.

re-attach nuts.

the new mount is a bit taller than the old mount,
so the cup-thing wont fit on as flush as the old one.
depending on how you feel about it, you can crank it
down or leave a gap. im sure someone has an opinion
about both.

be well, go well..

Brian,

The hill totally had something to do with your troubles installing the
mount. In the directions, if my memory serves me right, it states to
perform this on a flat surface, so the engine weight isn't rocking towards
the front or rear of the car. That was most likely was the cause of your
problems.

Got my Whipple and K&N drop in. Both went in without a hitch. I made a
few posts about the stress on those 13mm bolts. After doing the job, I do
have some feedback. I noticed that the stock mount places no stress on
these bolts. One can hold the lower cap in place making contact with the
cross member - no prob. The Whipple on the other hand, requires tightening
each nut to, 1. bend the cap and, 2. compress the Whipple. This is why the
bolts are snapping(if not very careful). I installed two small washers b/w
the cap and cross member. I still have no play in the lower hockey puck
and have significantly reduced the stress on the 13mm bolts. INMB it seems
sound to me.

BTW, I didn't get an erection or anything, but it IS better. Slightly more
noise that disappears once around the block. Better shifting. I'm not
sure if my gas pedal ever had a mind of its own?

For Walley only...
Hey Wal, I thought about your stress post during the install. IMHO the
only extra stresses imposed on the system are on the cross member. You may
be correct, but I'm not as worried as I was before and would recommend you
reconsider this mod. But what the hell do I know?
