Well after having a fuel gauge that would read 1/2 full after I filled
up the tank for the past few months. I decided to lay down the law
and fix the damn thing.
I think this issue has been brought up before so I will explain how
I solved my problem.
1. Remove the fuel pump from the car. In order to do this you
must remove the fuel cover plate (3) screws. The fuel pump is held
in with a large retaining ring. This was a pain to remove. Since,
I did not have anything large enough to wrap around I used the blunt
edge of a file and hammered at the rings until it finally became loose.
2. Remove the fuel pump and on the right side you will see the fuel
lever sensor. The sensor arm is held in by tab. Depress the tabs
and pull on the sensor arm. The unit will dislodge. There are two
wires also attached to the sensor.
3. Remove the sensor from the tank and you will see the contact
points on the gauge. on the end of the sensor you will see the black
level. This is the thing that moves the sensor up and down based on
the amount of fuel in your tank. make sure that there is no fuel,
in the black level. This was not my problem.
4. The connectors on my sesor were dirty. So I took a piece of sand
paper and just removed the dirt on the level sensor pad and cleaned
with so electrical connector cleaner.
5. Reinstalled and all was good.!.
If you have any Q. just ask.
