I had the EXACT same thing happen to my car. I thought it was the plug
wires, so I replaced them with Blue Igniters. It still happened,
although less frequently. I then feared the coil pack. But the problem
has stopped all by itself. From reading messages a couple of weeks ago,
I thought it might have been a throttle position sensor problem. Who
knows? Just so long as it doesn't happen again.

Follow up on the hot engine problem. I had been having the
stumbling shutdown at full throttle fairly repeatable for several days and
the fuel tank was less than 1/4 tank. Sat filled the tank and no problems.
Where is the fuel pick-up? Is it possible for the pick-up to unport during
hard acceleration? I realize this is fishing as I'm sure my car is not
doing 1 g+ acceleration especially in 3rd or 4th gear but hey I'm trying to
figure out what's going on.

I have recently picked up a 1997 VR6 that stutters
when accelerating from low speed. It does it with
varying amounts of fuel in the tank and under all
heat conditions.

It went back to the dealer today who said 'we have
experienced a few problems with the 'HT' (ignition)
leads on the VR6 which can lead to stalling and
cutting out as the leads break down.

My last vehicle had a similar problem, and good
quality ignition leads also cured that.

Just thought you might like to know :-)
