I have 2 problems going on that have plagued me for a bit. Recently, my VGi
feels like it’s not opening up until 5000 revs when it used to around 4000
or so. Instead of a smooth increase in power at about 4200, I am getting a
jolting increase at 5000. Any ideas? I know there is a way to change what
rev it operates at but I haven’t changed anything. Secondly, something is
going on with my motor mounts. My motor has rolled forward (oddly enough)
far enough to break off my dip-stick handle. I have replace the turn2
washer, which wasn’t broken, and the entire rear motor mount assembly with
OEM part. The drivetrain feels sloppy and jerky, especially when shifting
from 1st to 2nd. If I toggle the throttle off and on rapidly, I can really
feel it flopping around in there. Any ideas on what to go after next? I know
there is another mount on the left attached to the transmission, could this
be the culprit? TIA.

	Well if your engine has rolled forward it might be, there should be a bolt
on the top of the upper front engine mount pretty much dead center on the
front of the engine reach down and see if you can wiggle it.... at least
thats what I've heard to do.

Have you checked the bolt on top of the front mount?  Mine was broken,
exhibiting the same symptoms as you , but I didn't realize that was the
problem because it LOOKED like it was still ok, but in fact the bolt had
broke in half and was just sitting in there.  Other than that, I'd say
it may be that other mount.  As for the VGi, seems like I remember some
people having problems with the actuator, or something similar.  GOOD

that happened to me last week.
on my car, the front motor mount top bolt broke.. i also have turn2 motor
mounts...  the head of the bolt somehow broke off.
if that is the case, it might be a bitch trying to take out the broken bolt.
i removed the whole motor mount, both top and bottoms and with some ingenuity
got the broken bolt out. then went to the hardware store to get a replacement
bolt.. I figured the real replacement bolt from vw was probably gonna cost me
a whole lot more.
anyway, the size is 17mm bolt with a 1.5mm pitch the length bolt i used had
30mm of thread.

Problem is, I don't know whether it's the front or the back. I had the whole
front upper assembly out when I put the upper Turn2 mount in. Kind of a
bitch to get it out but doable. The bolt head on the front is intact and I
can't spin or wiggle it by hand but I guess the only way that I'm really
going to know is to get a wrench on there and if it's broken, I'll guess
I'll have to take that bitch out. Isn't the factory bolt in there hardened
steel? I do not want to go through drilling that. What a PITA!

What happens if you rev the car with the hood open?  Just stand beside
it and move the throttle linkage (to the right of the throttle body)
with your hand.  You should be able to see if the front lifts.

Yeah, I did that yesterday. The motor flops up and down violently. Last
night I got under there and found the bolt that goes in the bottom (through
the infamous Turn2 washer) was MISSING!!! I had to go to Home Depot to get a
replacement since the hardware store was closed. They didn't have any grade
8 stuff in metric sizes and they also don't sell Lock-tite. (WTF?) Anyway, I
ran a 10mmX2'' (roughly) up through there and the problem is solved. This
weekend I plan to put it together right. Does anyone know what size (how
long) that bolt is supposed to be? Also, IIRC, it's an allen head, correct
me if I'm wrong. I'm going to get some Lock-tite on too so it won't happen
again.

I used an M10x30 grade 12.9 socket-head cap screw in both the top and
bottom.  (In the top I also used a hardened washer.)

So rather than just lurking and cracking wise once in a while, I actually have a problem. WooHoo!

When I accelerate hard, I get a kinda heavy clunk + lurching in the front of the car when I take my foot
off the gas and apply the clutch for the next gear. No problem at all that I notice when I drive like a       granny and shift slow and easy at 2500 rpm. I popped the hood and pushed on the throttle by hand to get
the engine to spin up fast a few times, but no jumping or hopping around, at least no more than normal.

Any ideas?

Front lower mount.  Stick your finger in the center to see if you still have
a bolt.  The heads on them tend to shear off.
