I wanted to post this to get feed back from others that have put on
the mount. I sent a copy to Jason and am waiting to here his
thoughts. Let me know if you guys have notice the problems I have and
if you can recomend a fix
     Andy Atwell

     Hi Jason,
Well here are my first impressions of the mount, I've driven on it
     for 3 days.

     Pros:
     1. Fist thing I noticed right away is that it cleared up my 2nd gear
shifting. My gear box is usually quite vague (especially 2nd) and now
     it is much more positive.
     2. When starting in first gear the car is much smoother, no shaking
     when letting out the clutch.
     3. clutch feel is much more precise
     4. smoother engine during down shifts,

An over all feeling of better connection to the engine.

     Cons:
     1. When starting in 1st gear at slow speeds, (not really
excellerating) like in a parking lot setting, there is a
clunking/knocking sound heard at the end of the clutch travel (out).
     2. a motor movement/shifting feel and squeak/rubbing sound can be
heard when turning the steering wheel lock to lock (when pulling into
a drive way, or parking lot etc).

Has anyone else had these above complaints/problems? Are there fixes?
The bushings seem to be kind of small in diameter. They are not as
big as the one I pulled out. In your instructions you mention that it
might be difficult to fit the upper bushing and lubrication might be
nessary, I had no problems with that, infact the fit was loose, when
the bushing was up in place (prior to tightening) it would move side
to side maybe 0.25 inches. The same can be said about how the lower
one fits into the "cup" that bolts to the cross member. I fear that
this is the cause of the movement I'm noticing above. Are these
susposed to be undersized or a tight fit? Let me know, I like the
positive attributes of the mount, the idle really doesn't seem rougher
(nice) but the clunking is un-nerving.

I have a '98...I'm putting it in and it seems like there's a LOT of
slop in the mount "housing" as much as a 1/4" or more, both in the
upper and lower recess. Would anyone who's installed this confirm if
this is correct....perhaps it is, but I'm a little edgy given that
the original "slime in a bladder" one fit snugly AND the directions
talk about the upper doughnut possibly fitting so tightly that you
might need lubricant....NOT the case here! I'm thinking the
dimensions might have changed for '98. Since I get stuff from this
newsgroup by digest, please reply direct to my account or call me at
(914) 336-4815....collect would be fine.
Thanks in advance...........Stewart

I see Andrew's having the same questions....
FYI, the upper recess is 85mm in diameter, the motor mount shaft 20mm
the lower recess was about 86.5 mm in diameter
The upper Whipple doughnut is 75 mm OD, 22 ID....thus there's 2 mm of
slack on the inside, 15 on the outside....15mm is almost 5/8"!
The lower is the same dimensions, though a different color (and
perhaps durometer?)

Andrew, is your car a '98?

Mine was loose top and bottom on my '95...more so on the bottom. I just
made sure to center them before I torqued the bolts down.

I got the Whipple front motor mount with the group purchase several months
back and installed it about a month after getting it. At the time I really
didn't feel like it did much. I noticed some subtle differences in shift
feel and the feel of the car in on-off throttle situations -- ho hum.

However, it just dawned on me this past week that I haven't experienced a
single first-to-second-gear-shift CRUNCH since I installed the mount several
months ago. This "crunch" had been a fairly routine experience in my car
and could happen both in casual and "full bore" driving modes. I'd always
suspected this had more to do with shift linkage and the cables than
syncro's in the tranny itself.

Given no other changes than the installation of the Whipple motor mount, I'd
have to say this stopped enough engine rocking under on-off-on throttle that
it had a positive effect on the cable shift system.

Whatever. I think the Whipple solved one of the major annoyances with my
'95. YMMV.
