Ok, this is going to sound dumb.
I replaced the therm. myself.. is there any way I
could have installed it backwards?  Would it not
operate if so?

The thermostat goes in only one way, its idiot proof
=)

I concur.  aqn. ]
if you dont believe me, take it apart, your going to
have
to take it out, so you can drain the coolant once you,
replace
the pump.


Its still your water pump.
