Wheres the best place to buy the vag com cable and software for our vr6 or is there a way around spending
money on this ? How usefull is it ?

Can I find a repacment for this cable and software and does the proce differ in different countries.

I know its possible to build this cable with a bit of electronics knowledge.
Any second hand  ?

I got Vag-Com for $135.   $35 for an e-bay cable (there are multiple
kinds, you have to get one of the newer kinds)  and $100 for Vag-Com.  I'm
limited to a 4xx series version of the program due to the cable type, but
that still supports cars up to 2005.

cable for $35 and use the free version of vag-com -- but then you need
someone / someway to decipher the codes you get back.

What about those of us with OBD-I? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I can't
use a VAG-COM due to the fact that it's not OBD-II, right? What can I
use to read my codes?

Although, maybe it's not necessary because my check engine light will
come on for a day or two, then go off for another 2 months. I just wish
I knew what it was throwing for those 2 days.
