Forget the 260's and 268's....the 264's are the road to enlightenment.
Schrick or Kent, the 264's will not lose any torque and give outstanding high
end results. The 268's on the other hand *might* give up 2-3 hp on top at
6800 rpms but you will definetly have a "Softer" bottom end - DESPITE
chipping it with a special chip. I have driven several cars with 268's and
they lose that snappy acceleration in the mid-rpms which separates the VR6
from the VTEC boys. Besides, for the same price of the Schrick 268s ($800),
you can get Kent 264's ($399) and unorthodox Racing pulleys ($259? through
the Group Purchase)and a chip ($150) for the same price. HHmmm, its not a
real tough decision.....

I suppose you only believe the dyno sheets that you want to believe...
Have you really driven a 268 equipped VR6 with a *Garrett* chip? There are a
bunch of special "cam" chips out there, but it was Garrett's that really got
us thinking. After driving his 268 cam chip a couple years back, I was
convinced of his programming and tuning skills. His was the *only* one that
took care of the low end throttle response and torque loss issues. Then we
decided to ask him about distributing his chips...
Either way, there's the dyno sheet on our page. It finally proves what we've
been experiencing for a long time. No low end loss. In fact, if I had
chosen an earlier run, his chip with the 268s would have gained torque over
just the chip. In all fairness, we only pick the run with the lowest
numbers, after all temperature and adaptiation are cycled through. We run
the mod until the numbers stop climbing or dropping, and use these sheets as
a real world representation. For example, the G60 loses ~20hp after fully
warmed up.
Also, the Schrick cams retail for $699 (from us at least). And no new
lifters are required as with the regrinds. So the price difference shrinks
even more, and the hp numbers are still quite different...
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the more mild 264 or 264/260s
will be suitable for daily driving regardless of software mods. They won't
make the most power (as 1/4 mile runs showed us previous to our dyno
aquisition), but they have minimal overlap which reduces low end power loss.
However, as our dyno sheets show, and the dozens of 268/G chip drivers can
attest, the 268/G chip combo loses no low end power. And makes *a lot* of
power up top. I can guarantee you that the 264s make no where near the 30hp
at 6800 that the 268s do.
What we have yet to determine is if the more mild cams may make power
earlier. If they do, the tradeoff will be less power up top. Let's just get
one thing straight, Russell, the 268/G chip combo does not lose anything down
low. Period.
Also note that we do our pulls in 4th gear vs your 3rd gear runs. This
minimizes gearing bias. 4th gear is very close to a 1:1 ratio. Runs in
lower gears will exaggerate the results.
I and others have stated this too many times. I guess you have your own
criteria.
