Just a few observations following my installation of the New Dimensions/
Borla exhaust. I ordered it along with a short shift kit from Todd@AWE,
The exhaust for those that dont know is a cat back stainless steel
system using Borla mufflers. The system looked good out of the box. In
fact that is the way I first saw it since ND did such a piss poor job of
packing the exhaust (although I ordered it from Todd, it was drop
shipped from ND). No extra material, just the mufflers and some pipe
thrown in a box. The box itself was actually two taped together and lack
enough strength to hold the weight of the exhuast. Class. Luckily I am
not into showing the car since the mufflers were failry scratched up but
since I live on a gravel road and they will probably look like that
after a week, no harm no foul.
Got the car up on stands and everything went fine. To those who havent
installed either an exhaust or SS, invest in some heavy duty penetrating
spray to break up the corrosion on the bolts underneath the car and let
it sit for a while. It will save much cursing.
As always, the ss came with very clear instructions and was a straight
foward install. Takes a while but no suprises.
As for the exhaust fit was excellent and they supplied all the
appropriate brackets. It is amazing how heavy the stock exhaust is. Be
careful.
The sound is nice on idle. Definitely deeper than stock but nice. A tad
bit of rumbling under 3k but not much more that stock and certainly less
than others I have heard such as the Neuspeed system. Once you punch it
though it sounds nice. Again not necessarily louder than stock, just
different. Definitely an increase in power at 3500 and on according to
the official butt dyno.Unfortunately I am not going to have a chance to
get it dyno'ed before installing a blower. For the record, current mods
include filter, chip and Shrick VG.
Last thing: it has a very unique single intercooled tip. Not too large
but not quite as classy as a dual tip in my opinion. It certainly looks
smaller on the car than it looked on my bench.
Overall, it is a very nice system. I chose it over some other systems
since it was regarded as a bit more livable tone than some others and
the performance seems to be there. I guess some others might flow better
but the noise was a bit too much.
Sorry that was so long.
