Subject: [gti-vr6] ND/Borla exhaust impressions...

Firstly, thanx go out to ron@nd for putting up with me once again during a
hardware install... i dunno what it is, but i get neurotic when my car's not
with me. *shrug*... at least i managed to only call him once ;)

but about the exhaust... ND didn't have any of the midsection Borla mufflers
at the time, so i bought an 8V system (same diameter, same rear muffler,
only difference is straight pipe in place of the center muffler). it was a
bit extra to modify it for the VR6... nothing huge on my end ($50 or so),
but i'm not sure if it's something ron wants to have his guys do a lot of.

sound: it is considerably louder than stock, as i was warned it would be
when i paid for it. the strange thing is, at WOT between 4500-redline, the
sound is almost the same... it's at part throttle in lower RPMs that the
difference is much more noticeable. i like the sound... i think it's very
refined, but some might find it annoying... not for everyone, i guess, much
like the koni/NS race setup. there is a pretty strong resonation in the
mid-2000rpm range at medium throttle, which would probably bug a few
people... i'm guessing that resonation is the reason for the center muffler
on the standard ND VR6 system.

performance: a *marked* improvement above 4500rpm. it winds to redline now
like it expects a prize if it hits 7000rpm or something, and bounces off the
fuel cut much more strongly than before.

all said; it's money well spent IMO. i haven't tried any other exhausts on
my car, haven't ridden in a car with a different exhaust installed, but i'm
very happy with my purchase. thanks go out to ND for building a great
system, as well as their excellent service department. as wally said, they
are indeed a top-flight organization.

it is written.
