I have a Supersprint that came with my 325is. It is one of the only
aftermarket systems that has been confirmed in testing to make a
difference in hp. Really nice mellow sound with a roar at high rpm, not
loud and boomy like others. Aluminumized with fiberglass damping.
Check out www.supersprint.com

While I agree with Josh that the factory system is quite good I do
have to disagree that there is no gain from a aftermarket one. We
have tested and installed our system on at least 10 different VR6
models and we have gained power on every one. Some more than others
but always at least 4-6 gain. Sure it is not a earth shaking power
gain but it helps in the total picture of things.

We even had our system installed by a third party along with
another well know system and ours showed a good gain as well as
fitted with no problems. What they found on the other I would rather
not say. Again it was only 1 test for them so that is why I have
tested ours over and over again. Many times we even offer to
dyno it before and after for a customer.

Now there are many systems out on the market and I can only speak for
ours as we have not tested many of the others but I would suspect
that many do offer a power gain.

One of the secrets is not to loose any power on the bottom and at the
magical 4k area. This is why people notice a lost of power with
removing the center muffler as well as the very loud sound. Our
system was a little too loud and had a slight resonance at a certain
rpms. We redesigned it and used two mufflers to cure it and without
any lost in power.

I have the revised ND single tip, double muffler, cat back Borla exhaust(boy
is that a mouthful!!!). Heres how it did on the dyno. The only other mods on
the car are p-flo and p-chip

RPM stock Borla CHANGE
2000 48 48 +0
2500 64 63 -1
3000 79 81 +2
3500 96 98 +2
4000 113 117 +4
4500 130 138 +8
5000 142 152 +10
5500 155 160 +5
6000 151 162 +11
6500 140 160 +20???? I don't know what happened here, or if I
believe it. I can tell you this though, before the exhaust the car just
totally ran out of power at 6k and after the exhaust was put in it pulls
strongly all the way to the rev limiter. While the ND system doesn't have the
stylish duel dtm type tips, It looks good, the quality/fit/finish are first
rate, and the gains in power are real

All,

Regarding VR6 exhaust systems: The ND system (twin Borla, 2.25") is a good
option. I've seen the dyno results of a '92 SLC, and was impressed.
Empirical data: about 12ft lbs of torque in the mid rpm range, about 10-12
road hp gain at high rpm range.
Impressive, considering the diameter is only 2.25". Sounds nice under
throttle; idle sound is humble. I haven't seen the dyno chart for a GTI
system. Gains are probably equal or superior to the Corrado system. Thus
far, I haven't seen any VR6 cat-back system even approach those gains.

Jason
