I have an Autotech chip, it's in the box that the Garrett chip came in. I too
started with the Autotech chip and after listening to all the Garrett stuff
here, I ordered it. The improvement from the Q-chip to the Garrett chip was
equal to the improvement from stock to the Q-chip. I am glad I made the
purchase. I don't know what version the Q-chip is, I bought it in March of
this year. The biggest gains for the Garret chip come down low. The throttle
response and low end torque make the VR-6 a lot more fun to drive daily. At
teh drags, my 1/4 times did not drop much, from 14.95 to 14.91, but trap speed
jumped from 91.5 to 93 mph. The numbes may not show a big gain, but in real
world driving, your foot will be much happier.

I just upgraded my '93 Passat GLX (ODBI) from the Autotech Q-Chip to Garrett's
v.9 VR6 Chip. The difference in performance is MORE than the difference between
the Q-Chip and stock when I upgraded a few years ago. As time goes on, it seems
to be getting stronger and stronger. Initially, my gas mileage SUCKED. It went
from 28mpg highway to about 21MPG. It's slowly creeping back up to the 24mpg
mark.

I'm very impressed with Garrett's ability to tune the software in our cars. I
wasn't expecting these types of gains.. but I'm more than happy. I too, had a
delay in shipping, but it was because the chip wasn't in stock at AWE and
Garrett was on vacation until June 30. No biggie. I had other mods constantly
rolling in to keep me busy. (Feverishly modding for preparation for WF'99)

Aaron, I had the Q-chip in my 95 GTI and it was OK. IIRC, it was only good
at wide open throttle. The GIAC chip is good for all throttle positions.
Plus, the Q-chip made an annoying ultra high-pitched squeal at certain
throttle positions (especially at steady highway speeds). I say go for the
GIAC chip. I love mine :)

Peace, Adrian
