After reading some of the comments about Tyler's dyno results, I wasn't even going to post this, but I changed
my mind. I took my freshly installed Matrix 3.1L VR6 to Eurosport and dynoed yesterday on their Dynojet.

Three pulls: all very consistent at about 200 Wheel Horsepower, and 187 Wheel Torque.
Now before you NA haters get started on me, here's a few tidbits of information for you:
My motor only has about 2,500 miles on it. It's got 288 cams, CCH Big Valve Head, Supersprint header,
Supersprint street exhaust, stock/unmodified intake manifold, stock unmodified airbox with OEM paper filter,
and I'm running a standard GIAC v.11c chip.
I also have been experiencing some problems with my car lately. Namely, I get massive pinging in the hot 100
degree weather we've been having - even when running 100 octane race fuel. The dynoes were done immediately
after a 2 1/2 hour stop-and-go traffic drive. I could not find a station that sold race gas, so I had to run
on the best grade we get out here in Southern California, which is 91 octane, ethanol-blended. I scanned my
car for codes just before dynoing, and even though my CEL was not on, I had thirteen codes - mostly random
multiple misfires on all 6 cylinders, a long term fuel trim lean condition, and surprise - Knock Sensor
Control Cyl #4. That explains the pinging.
So, I guess you could say I've got room for improvement, and plenty of things to look into. Naturally there's
gains to be had by working with the intake manifold and going with a larger diameter exhaust - not to mention
it would be nice to have a properly tuned chip for this motor. All in all, even with the issues and the
current power level, I'm fairly satisfied with my investment. As I mentioned in a previous post, I enjoy
taking this car to track events and running it on road courses. My last event I was able to blow away, or at
least keep up with pretty much every other modified VW you can imagine, chipped 1.8T's, 24V VR6's, even a VF
Engineering supercharged 24V VR6 was no match for me. But my proudest achievement was starting out 10 seconds
behind a skilled driver in a Honda S2000, and not only catching up with him, but passing him and then putting
distance on him. After the session, he came over and expressed great dismay when he could not find a blower
or turbo hanging off my motor. I didn't bother to mention my Quaife 6-speed tranny, which honestly, I credit
with most of my success that day.
Anyway, as I've said many times, going the larger displacement route may not make financial sense, but for
what I was hoping to achieve, it made sense for me. I could give a rat's ass whether you do it to your car or
not. Because of the costs involved, I doubt many will. Sorry for that bit of attitude, but I feel it's
deserved.
I am happy to answer any questions you may have.
