Hi All,

I just purchased a '98 GTi VR6 and love it! I've really enjoyed reading
through the list archives, but was unable to find the answer to my current
question. When I got the car it only came with one keyless entry remote (the
4 button one shaped like a key). I purchased another off e-bay but I have
been unsucessful at programming it into the system. The remote came with
instructions that suggested:

1) Turn on the Ignition switch with your master key (don't start the engine)
2) Use your second master key to lock the car from the outside
3) Press and release either 'lock' or 'unlock' once
4) Wait two seconds
5) Press the same button press in step 3 again
6) Turn off the ignition key

This didn't work for me. Anyone have any ideas?

Your procedure is a bit wrong. According to my handy service manual, the
procedure does require 2 keys and must be completed within one minute.

1- turn ignition to ON
2- close all doors and the hatch
3- use another key, turn to the unlock position and hold it until the horn
beeps 3 times
4- press the UNLOCK button on the transmitter. the horn should beep once
5- repeat #4 on all the transmitters you have, the horn will beep twice each
time
6- turn the key in the door to unlock position and hold it until the horn
beeps 3 times

you're done.

I did this once actually when I got a 3rd remote, and it did work for me.
