I just changed my bulbs for brighter ones. Same reason: can't afford the
dual-rounds. :) Our headlights are 9006 for the lows and 9005 for the
highs. I went to Parts America and got some brighter bulbs. They were some
unknown Korean brand. Came to about $12.99 each. They didn't have Hellas
handy. NAPA also had some Hella bulbs for our cars but they were out of
stock when I wanted it. I got 80W for the lows and 100W for the highs. The
label said "Diamond Blue", and the light does have a slight bluish white
hue to it, but the lights look yellow from the outside. None of the ion
blue crud. The highs still look yellow, tho. It is definitely brighter than
stock. I've only had it in there for a few days so no long term impressions
yet. I definitely like the new brightness. I am still a little worried
about the heat of the higher watt bulb damaging the reflectors but a lister
said he had 80W lows in his car for about a year w/o any probs, so we'll see.

I've had 80W lows in my car since May of 1996. I still have the DRL's on,
so my lights are on constantly. I've not had any problems. I also found
that careful re-aiming of the lights (performed after suspension mods
lowered the front end) vastly improved the lighting, also. I do not get
"flashed" by oncoming traffic, so they do not appear to be causing problems
to other drivers.
