Well, congrats and thanks to all those who responded so fast to my "dead
car" problem - it was the stock battery at fault, (16410 miles - if that's
not a record, it's gotta be close).
SO! - this morning, I got a jumpstart, and headed out the door to go and get
myself a new Optima Redtop :-)
Carquest auto parts has the 800U for $141 each ( a little more than some
people have paid, but WTH)
Some news for the archives: The info we have in the archives right now comes
from the Corrado club, and talks about having to grind off the lip of the
battery tray, and also run extra cable to the grounding point. Well folks,
that's not the case for our cars.
The ONLY thing I had to do to make the stock battery clamps grip tight,
without damaging the case, was to take some 3/4" coolant hose, slit it down
one side, and slide this onto the stock clamps. This ensures no sharp edges,
and grips really well. The cables all fit perfectly, no problems there.
As far as weight and size go, I would say that the optima is only *maybe*
2-3 lbs lighter than the stock battery, but it is about 2" shorter on the
longest side. (so if you need that little bit of extra room, this is good)
anyways, thanks again to all that were able to help me, it's nice to have so
many people to give advice, even at 11pm at night!
