i have done this!
it is really cool, and real cheap!!
all you do is when you take out the instrument cluster (as per my
instructions in the library),
you remove the long skinny white plastic thing that holds the bulbs
off..(make sure you dont bend the power strip too much!!!)
and then you will see the UGLY green strip of translucent plastic. take this
off, and you can see the clear "windows" that illuminate the
instrument cluster.
At this point, I should mention my car is blue, so i chose to make the
illum. blue also...
What i did was take some colored plastic, that was intended to go in front
of my strobe light to change the color (it is like the thickness of an
acetate film, but tinted blue.) and used the green crap as a stencil to cut
out the blue stuff.
now i had to double up the color, because the bulbs themselves i believe
shine a tint green, so with only one layer it still looked green.
i just took some pictures of the cluster and they suck, but i did get a good
shot of the film i used. http://user.gru.net/stewartmc/film.jpg
after you put two layers of you desired color, just pop the bulb hoder back
in, and then put the cluster in.
the only thing to be aware of, is to do it at night (or somewhere dark)
otherwise you must wait until it gets dark to see the difference!!
this might be obvious, but the first time i put the cluster back, it was
2PM...hahaha....
Good Luck, and let me know how it goes!!
