I had the exact same problem until a VW tech I trust took a look at it
and found the pressure switch under the hood was only lightly touching
the underside of the hood when closed. Fix: bend the metal bracket
upward a bit so that it makes a good contact with the hood.

I checked here first. My alarm hasnt been chirping (started TODAY! i finished
painting my engine cover.. *drool* it looks so purdy! ill post pics once i get
blue wires) anyway, so my mom and i went to skippers... and when i locked the
GTI (after almost rear ending an idiot who stopped behind an idiot who stopped
on the OTHER side of an intercection, what a place to freaking stop! anyway)
When i locked the GTi, it didnt beep! it just made that dying, urrrrn sound
that we all love so much (no, really, i like it!)

So, where is this sensor that my linked library entry at? I cant seem to find
it...

Oh, and does anyone have a wiring diagram of the GTIs stereo? Im switching Head
units (kenwood... yay!) and just wondering if any of you could help out! thanks!

For the 98's at least, there is a micro switch at the latch. Bentley manual
is wrong in saying it is on the coolant tank bracket for the entire A3
models.

When I got my car back from the dealer for some accident work, my alarm
would not engage. According to Bentley, I was missing the switch, but after
going back to the dealer he explained it is now a very small switch on the
latch.

Can I ask where the 'latch' is? Does that apply for pre-98 models too?

The latch I am talking about is the hood, aka bonnet latch. You will see a
wire going to the latch. If you don't have a plunger type switch on the
coolant bracket I would assume you would have the micro switch.
