V1 Hardwire FAQ

First thing, if you have no experience with basic wiring, I suggest
that you have someone help you. I believe in hands-on learning so I
definately recommend undertaking small projects at a time.

You will need:

V1 Radar Detector
Hardwiring Kit (direct from valentine. they are local so I just pick
mine up when I buy a new car. Otherwise you can buy thru the company
via valentineone.com)
Wire (red and black to make it easy)
Wire strippers (or some sorf of cutting tool)
Electrical tape
V1 remote display unit (optional)

Take apart A/C area by popping off A/C panel, and ashtray and removing
the 6 screws as described in my dash painting FAQ.

Find the plug for the 12v outlet. Since things might change depending
on model year of your car, you will want to a) have a voltmeter to
find the right wire or b) find the right information online

Simply splice into the 12v wire and attach a 3' long red wire Splice
into the ground and attach a black 3' wire

Using some type of fishing method, bring the wire through the backside
of the dash into the drivers footwell.

Now, attach the wires to the V1 hardwiring unit. This unit has a plug
for the main unit and a plug for the concealed display. Obviously
enough, attach red to red and black to black.

Included in the hardwiring kit are all the correct cords. No need to
buy extra phone wire! Mount the hardwiring router thingee underneath
the dash with the included 3M velcro. This stuff is killer, I wish
I could find it to buy for other projects.

Test connect the V1 to be sure you wired it right. If it doesn't work,
try turning it on. If it still doesn't work, test the unit using the
12v plug to see if your unit works at all. If it still doesn't work,
you wired it wrong, try again.

Now, remove your a-pillar. Take the longer phone cord and run it
from the right side of your rearview mirror (this gives you about
the correct length to mount the V1) to around the side of the dash,
and then underneath. Plug it in, duh.

Now, I decided to tape the wire all the way down the a-pillar with
some black duct tape so that I could reattach the a-pillar without
the wire interfering. Once you've got the wire run, simply tuck it
in. The headliner should pull down slightly so that you can just
stick it up there.

Attach the V1 to the cord and tuck it between the rearview mirror
and headliner.

THE TRICK TO THE V1- THE REAR SENSOR!!! If this sensor doesn't see
DIRECTLY out your rear window, you are losing LARGE amount of view
for radar and laser detection!!! This is precisely why it needs to
be mounted here.

Now, the remote display is easy. Find a shorter phone cord, I just
used the coiled cord because I hate shopping and this one worked.

Remove the steering column surround. Plug the cord into the wiring
splitter thingee. Using a light, look through and find the cord. Reach
down and grab it. Plug in the unit to be sure it works. If it doesn't
work, troubleshoot using method above. If you didn't troubleshoot
already, you have a few more places to look now.... grrr

Hold the V1 in a position you like and reattach the column
surround. Using supplied 3M velcro, stick it where you want it,
being careful not to obstruct the view of your gauge cluster.

I've hardwired a V1 in every car I've owned. If you need help I'm
sure I can probably help you. Simply IM.

One key tip to remember- the V1 is not a cop detector. If you do
stupid stuff on the road, this thing isn't going to prevent you from
getting pulled over for being a dumb***. Drive safely, and within
your boundaries.
