I went over to Mike Potter's today and got a set of the Hella Black Magic dual rounds.
For anyone considering them.. highly recommended! For now I am using the smoked
surrounds, unpainted. Mike, his wife Kristen and I all agreed that it looked pretty cool,
even though my car is white. It's just now getting dark so I haven't been out prowling
with them yet, but if the pattern shot against my garage door at dusk is any indication,
these babies are awesome! VERY sharp cutoff point at the top of the beams.

Mike took a couple of pictures, and within a few days they'll be up at his site
(www.parts4vws.com) if anybody wants to see how they look.

Mike has custom fabricated a mounting kit for these suckers. They come to you with
his mounting hardware already installed, and his own 1-page illustrated installation
guide. It took Mike about 30 minutes to slap 'em on my car (which he did for free..
..THANKS Mike!). You have to drill one hole on each side, but other than that, it's a
slam-dunk bolt-on, thanks to his included pieces.

More later after I've cruised the darkness...

I guess I'll be hanging onto my car for a while now!

That's Mike Potter

$475 clear; $550 smoked; the kit is complete w/all mounting hardware. The
site says 20 minutes to install.

Close, it's Mike Potter, and it takes no more than 20-30 minutes to install with his kit.
One hole has to be drilled in the radiator support on each side, but other than that no
cutting or any other difficult (or scarring) mods need to be done. Check his website,
www.parts4vws.com.. I've forwarded him a copy of your message too.

I have the Phantom headlight covers on my black '95. The "holes" are both round, with the high beam opening being slightly
smaller, which IMHO, look great with the taper of the headlight. I bought them to protect my headlights after having two of
them broken with flying rocks...and one cover now has a starburst crack in it from another hit! As to the Hella dual rounds,
I believe they are more than a cosmetic upgrade for those that need improved lighting, as I have found our factory headlights
to be woefully inadequate. The Hellas allow you to use higher wattage bulbs and the reflectors are far superior. I have
Hella headlights on two other rigs that have the standard round or square headlights, and they are EXCELLENT! I ran Hella
7"x9" square lights on my '84 GTI with 55 watt/100 watt bulbs...wish I could put those in my VR6! Anywho, I paid $49.95 for
the Phantoms (black) at my VW dealer here in Oregon.
