Erik,
We've hashed this subject a few times and it always
comes down to personal experience.
A couple things you have to look for:
1) Manufacturer of individual componants (nobody
actually makes an HID kit, but the kit is comprised of
products separately made)...This kit seems to have
Osram Ballasts (I hear they are pretty good-mine are
Panasonic and have been running well for 8 mos)

2) Warranty: because nobody actually makes a total
kit you will never find a warranty from Phillips or
Osram or GE, etc...You need to find out what your
retailer/distributor has as far as after-the-sale
support. Important, dude because there are some
shitty HID kits around.

3) Bulb: I've heard that H3's are the one bulb that
is very hard to retro-fit (like in our MK3 fogs) b/c
the focal point of that HID bulb is very hard to
duplicate on an otherwise Halogen setup. You will
have excessive glare unless a quality shield is
installed inthe bulb-but you won't know until you
drive. Now, since you are talking about H1 (for say,
Hella Dual Rounds) you should be ok as long as it's
for Hella DE lenses. I heard the cutoff on them is
the best. I have 'em with HID so I can promise you
that.

4) Lamp housing: See #3. If it's for Hella Dual
Rounds you should be set. Those are a pretty good
lens for this setup. I have them. You will notice
tho, that the right hand cutoff is high (on both
lamps) so you can see the shoulder well. This is good
for halogen b/c you can't notice it as much if you are
another driver. With HID's it's is magnified ALOT! I
have had to aim my lamps much lower than stock to
accomodate other drivers. Now I am set so that when I
pass somebody on the left that they aren't blinded
thru their rearview. Oncoming traffic sees absolutely
no glare tho.
I am seriously looking into purchasing DE lenses to
retrofit into my Halogen DE/Hella Dual Rounds so that
the cutoff issue is resolved.
Let me know what you go with.

Fiction (AKA Tom) and I have purchased and are running
with the same equipment. He's got MK4-looks/H7's...
I used to have that setup and went to Hella
Duals/H1's.
I'm sure he'll chime in too.

Hope this helps!
