I had the passenger side window motor replaced at about 23k for this reason
on my '95. The service guy told me there is a known issue with the window
motors leaving grease streaks on the window. The grease streak in question
on my car was about 1/2" wide running the length of the window. They
actually replaced it under warranty without my asking just because they saw
the grease (another reason I like Sunnyvale VW).

I had the same problem with my passenger side window. The first time the
dealer looked at it, they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. At
that time I did not have a grease streak. When I brought it in for the 5000
mile service, I had them look at it again. I mostly had this problem when it
rained out. The window would not operate in the one-touch up mode. I would
have to inch it up to stay shut. Luckily, it was raining that day and I
could replicate the problem to the dealer. They took the door apart and said
that the window was off of alignment. That is the reason the one touch up
would not work-the pinch protection would kick in. Also he said that the
gasket for the power window was being rubbed up against-the reason for the oil
streak. They realigned the window and I have had no problems with it. I now
notice that the driver's side window has a streak now and will have the dealer
fix that one the next time I bring it in. Hope this helps.

I had the same problem with my passenger side window, only when it was raining
though. There was also a small streak of oil on the inside of the window near
the switch. The dealer took a look at it and said:

"Found that the R/F window was hitting the window gasket causing auto up
feature to go into 'pinch' mode causing window to go back down. R+I R/F door
panel and adjusted window and regulator. Reinstalled and tested - OK."

That was at the 5000 mile service. Since then I have had no problems with it
except that the driver's side does it every once in a while. Can be a pain if
you are in a rush and it's raining out and you don't notice it. I have
noticed that it also has done it once or twice when it was hot out.

Hope this helps,
Glen
