Nice thing about the Hella kit is that Mike Potter has made a

a simple bolt-on procedure to install.. w/o his kit it's a

Well Wally, superior is a pretty BIG word! Have you looked at both
Hella & ABT?
Your right, without the mod's AMS does to the ABT's & what I do to
the Hella's or whatever you & your friend did to "make" it work
it isn't much fun. Which is why AMS & Myself mod (or
hack as you say) before they are sold to the customer for a MUCH
easier install; since it's such a costly item and should be
basically bolt on. If you get a chance to see both set's in person
you will see that the Hella's have a much thicker lens frame compared
to the ABT's being thinner, which is the reason for more mods on the
Hella's (your choice - light's or the core support) Niether one is
better or worse just made differently. Does that make one superior
to the other? The aesthetics of it are pure personal preference &
the GAP you refered to that the Hella's have compared to the ABT's is
really just more mask. I always thought a gap was an open hole not
covered. Hmmmmm. All the hella's I've installed don't have a" gap"
just more mask. Furthermore, the difference in lighting is simple
the ABT's use "E" coded lenses which are standard "euro" lights & the
Hella's use "DE" code low beam & a "FF" high beam. Do some searches
on lighting when your bored & learn about the difference between the
two.
Really to all that are interested call the retailer's that carry the
different kit's & get the fact's about them.... price, lighting. fit,
aesthetics & make your own decision.

So Wally, what headlights do you have?? U.S. DOT approved ? ABT?
Hella? Hmmmmmm....... I wonder

My friend has the ABT lights on his GTI and the lighting sucks! The quality
isnt up to the level of the Hellas either, the reflectors are flaking off of
two of the lenses. Hellas are better, same price better quality. Any one
check the light kit sold by Erubuni, they sell for $300 with the grill
spoiler, I wonder what they are like??

>>Hey guys,
I have been looking and looking, how about someone 'in-the-know'
explaining the difference [ABT vs. Hella]. From the photos I have been able
to see, the hellas look more similar in size. (the inside/bright light being
the same size as the outside light) Is this true? I am looking for the
'larger outside light' look.

Mat<<

Mat,

The difference between Abt and Hella is that Hella's lamps are projection
lamps. The hella kit's inner lamps are slightly bigger than the outside
lamps. This will give you the integra look. The Abt lamps have the
traditional GTi look... outside lamps are bigger than the inner lamps.
IMHO, the Abt looks better. BUT, light output is not as good as the
Hella's projection lamps.

Best of both worlds: Projektzwo. VW Sport sells them. Or you can check
out http://www.autobahnint.com./

They sell for around $530.

Just hoping to clear up some questions: the Projektzwo light kit uses Hella
lights, but instead of two 120mm lights, they use a 140mm outer and 120mm inner
for the same look as the Abt, but with better lighting. Also, the cover is
smooth without the "eyelids" of the Hella. Hope this helps.

Fella's,
Don't buy the Abt lights. They suck. I've had them. I even paid full boat
for them. The light output is crap. Not to mention horrible build quality.
Go with the Hella's or even better the A4 for A3 lights. These are FF H7's
and put out a great amount of light. That is of course just my .02
