I'm not sure about using a different transmitter but if you know someone
locally with a VAG-COM, I would have them scan it before you bring it in to
the deal so they can't bullsh!t you. A VAG-COM may even be able to reset the
immobilizer. I have one if you live in the MD/DC/VA area, I'll scan your car
for you.

Josh,

I have the share ware version of VAG-COM and was unable to connect to the
central locking computer. Which module reports keyless entry functions? Does
one need to have a registered copy of VAG-COM to access it? I currently can
get into the engine computer, ABS computer, and radio.

Chris,

I can try and see if the valet key will allow the keyless entry remote to
be programmed tonight, but having a master key copy makes a lot of sense. I
don't know about a key with integral remote so I can't help you there.

I can't connect to the central locking feature in my car with the full
version either but my car is a '96 and the only modules I can hook up to are
the engine, ABS, and airbag but then, my car doesn't have remotes for the
locks. I can't log into my radio either. My girlfriends '01 beetle has loads
of stuff though. Very cool. You can use the VAG-COM to log into any of the
modules on the main screen that your car has. You can't log into any of the
Less Common Modules. Obviously the older cars have less stuff and my '96
doesn't have much but the VAG is totally worth it. I have had 3 check engine
lights so it's already paid for itself. The dealer here gets $80 for a
diagnostic. I should stand out in front of the dealer with the VAG-COM and
scan people's cars for free before they go in so they don't get screwed by
the dealer. :) Boy would it be fun to have it out with the service manager
for that! :) I would probably get sued like that guy down in Atlanta.

What year is the car? VAG-COM can only connect to the central locking module
on the mkIV's. Even the registered versions.
