the squeaks will never go away. and if you get them
only when its cold, that means its just a matter of
time before you get them when its tuesday. its a
fact of our car. you get the car new and it sounds
vault tight. after 7k miles a rattle or a squeak here
or there.. before you know it, the car sounds like
chitty-chitty-bang-bang.
i had several problems: the door panel squeak, the
door panel rattle, and the squeak that came from
somewhere behind the front seats (for the life of me
i couldnt figure out exactly where it was coming from).
here is what i did to fix my problems. be creative
and maybe you will come up with better solutions.
the door squeak fix.
initially, upon suggestion from someone on the list,
i slipped wax paper into the squeaky spots. this
works fine until you open and close the door a few
times and the panels flex enough to free up the
wax paper and then you are suddenly a litter bug
when you open your door. i did this a few times
and figured i needed something more substantial.
get an allen wrench and loosen up all the fasteners
for the door panel. get some foam tape (double or
single, it doesnt matter). cut some strips
whatever length you want, (i cut them the length of
the door height and length) and slide them inbetween
the door and the panel. push panel tight and tighten
the allen clasps. the doors dont squeak any more.
occasionally, i hear one from the very top corner
(where the pop-up door latch is) so i do use
wax paper there because its tight enough to stay
for extended periods of time.
the mysterious squeak behind the front seats.
believe it or not, it is (probably) your latch
mechanism in the back hatch. i know i know i know
it was hard for me to believe as well, but it was.
take some electrical tape and wrap the pin a
few times (the pin being the thing attached to
the car, not the hatch door). weird, i know.
the front door rattle.
vaguely related to the back hatch squeak. i have
not conquered this one yet. but wrapping the
whole lock pin mechanism (again, attached to the
door frame, not the door) with electrical tape
helps a great deal.
hope that helps someone.
be well, go well..
