Is it sort of a creaking noise? I had a problem with a bad weld where
the b-pillar meets the floor. They rewelded it and it went away for a
while, but now its back again. Dealer says no problem, they'll redo it.
I guess they have 12/12,000 warranty on work they do. Hope that helps.

I had this problem at around 10K. The dealer took care of it after 3
attempts. I was told it was a bad weld in the B-pillar.

Yep, I agree. If you still have the B-pillar posts that many people
have been sending, print them out and show the dealer! This list is
very valuable that way. It's hard for a dealer to bullsh*t you when you
have proof. If you need me to send you something about my bad weld,
lemme know and I'll be happy to send it to you. I can't believe your
dealer is treating you like that. My dealer jumped right on it when I
complained about the noise...

Does anyone else (everyone?) have creaky door panels. Like the plastic skins
on the doors don't sit snug enough not to flex and creak. Is there anything I
can do besides install a better stereo? If I bitch at the dealer will they do
anything? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, though the cause of my problem may be slightly different. "Dealer
Error".

I had a rattle in my driver's door, so I had the dealer "fix" it. Well,
they apparently isolated the problem to a defective alarm LED housing. They
replaced it and, Voila', no rattle. But, then I started getting a creak in
the same door panel. I went to a different dealer (for many reasons, stay
away from Day VW in Pittsburgh) who said that all of the door panel clips
are broken. They had to order the clips, so I'll find out in a week if
that's the real problem.

I moved the striker around to no avail, I even tore apart the door latch/power
lock mechanism (what a rat's nest!) and lubed everything, to no avail. My
clicking was the dome light switch in the door jamb! I pulled the rubber
cover off, removed the switch, wrapped the switch in one turn of electrical
tape (to "gasketize" the switch from the metal car body) and lubed the
mechanism. Noise gone!

Cheers!

FWIW: I had a 'clicking' noise coming from the passegers' side door
area. It got showed up when it got cold, and got much worse as our
temperautres dropped below 0 last week. I fiddled and pushed on pieces
while driving, and pinpointed the seat. I adjusted the passenger's seat
to be more upright & tightned the 'play' in the adustment knob (moving
it toward the foward direction as much as I could without moving the
seat back). Problem gone. For now.

Although mine never rattled, you may consider unbolting the exhaust behind
the cat and twisting it in one direction or the other to get it off of the
brace and then tighten it again.... however, that may cause your exhaust
tips to be crooked. (Do this while the car is cold or you'll cook your
hands!) Is one of the rubber supports wearing out? If I were you, I
wouldn't take any more risks than you have too... replace that exhaust
IMMEADIATELY with a nice new shiny one with a big-fat chrome tip ;P
