(Standard disclaimer about already having checked the archives)

For those of you who've already tinted up your windows, how did you or did
you try to get around that dotted black stuff around the edges? Been told
that shops won't paste over that, leaving this little grey line around the
window. Do you go over that "It's a Sony" stuff, or is your tint pasted
only up to the edge of it?

'98 Ginster that wishes it were one of those incredibly black on black on

The tinting place I use here in the Bay Area, California Tinting and
Polishing, actually removes the glass from the car and applies the film
in a clean room, then reinstalls the glass. The film on my rears covers
the entire glass, dots included. Looks tits...

On my car (also Ginster) it's over the sony dots.
It looks fine.

They did mine over the bumps to a certain extent. I don't know what would
have been better as anywhere the tint goes over the black things it
doesn't attach completely. At any rate, it's most likely pretty
unnoticeable either way.

Yeah, right, they remove your bonded-in rear windows to apply the tint?
Sure. How much does this cost?...<g>

My GTI isn't tinted, but my Caravan is. (Not it's not the factory
*real* tint job). Same dots. They don't show. I don't know what the
trick is, if a good tint guy does it, the dots will be covered and they
won't show.

Always the skeptic, eh, Uwe? Yep, they remove the bonded-in rear glass
to apply the film in a clean room. The cost for first time customers is
around $225 for the 3 rear windows. Lifetime guarantee (no, it doesn't
cover child/dog/fishing gear scratches ;-)).

Next question...
