If you want to attach the splash guard, then yes it needs to be done.
And no, it's not really that big of a deal. Just be sure you're using
the correct size drill bit, as specified in the instructions. You can
drill and mount the fronts without taking the tires off (assuming no
extreme lowering).
Most of the real work is on the rear flaps. Here's what I ran into
1. Have to take the rear wheels off.. Not hard, and it gave me a chance
to use that jack and the wheel lock and such.
2. Have to drill two holes into the fender. It will NOT rust, because
the fenders there are plastic, so don't get into a tizzy.
3. Fitment.. The trick in the rear was getting the part of the splash
guard that runs under the bottom of the car to actually fit snug.
I think having one person hold the guard on very snug while another
person drills the holes would be the best bet. Otherwise you risk
not getting both holes to line up, or ending up with a small gap
at the bottom.
4. Fuel tank brace on the left side. I found that part of the splash
guard bumped into a big metal peice that, I think, helps hold the plastic
fuel tank in. I bent it slightly out of the way at the bottom to get
the snug fit I wanted for the guard.
All that said, I think the car looks a lot better with splash guards
all the way around. It also gives a slight illusion of lowering, because
the wells now look deeper.
