Kevin,
A few weeks ago, I had something strike the front of my side mirror, which
popped the glass out and shattered it, leaving it dangling from the heater
wires. I was not particularly looking for specifics on how to attach the
mirror assembly to the door, as only the glass needed to be replaced. However,
having seen the insides of the mirror, I would bet that one of two things is
your answer:
EITHER
The mirror screws to the door from inside the mirror. (i.e. you'd need to pull
the glass off the mirror to screw it back on.) If you do opt to try this, be
VERY careful trying to take the glass out- It clips in around the center of
the mirror and it WILL break if you flex it too much, I got the old one out by
tilting the glass down all of the way and then using a small screwdriver to
pop out the clips. Of course, the one I was removing was already smashed, so
stakes were a bit lower. (Replacements are only $20 or so from the dealer.
Much less than I expected for a heated mirror!)
OR
The mounting fixtures are accessible from under the small plastic cover inside
the car. You know, I wouldn't be surprised if it was attached with some sort
of clip rather than a screw, in order to minimize damage to the door in case
of a significant impact.
[ Yes, indeedy! The mirror's
inside trim piece is held on with three clips. Look here
for a diagram of this piece. aqn ]
That'll be $0.02, please.
