Hi Andy,
I have an A3 Golf (not a VR6), but I thought you might be interested in
including some Canadian content. I liked the idea of replacing the prop
rod that holds up the hood, so being that we don't have Pep Boys or Autozone
here, I went to Canadian Tire (aka Crappy Tire) to see what I could find
that might work.
I just asked for the hood lifts for a 1984 Celica Supra (read in the
archives or that the Supra part worked well in our cars), and they gave me
part #22-3687-6 (Cdn Tire's sku#). It's part #4604 from Strong Arm(tm).
One was strong enough to hold up my hood very well (put it on the passenger
side). I think two would be overpowering. I just followed the directions
from the archives and it was about a 20-minute operation with zero
complications.
Regular price for one lift is about $36 CDN, but they had a sale last week -
got them for 20% off, which worked out to a little over $29.
Quick, easy, pretty cheap, works great and give more room under the hood.
Can't beat it!
Just thought you might want to add it. Do whatever you like with it.
Cheers,
Mike Flegel
